Kitchen Beautiful

Today's post is dedicated to my in-laws. This week they celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary and are in the process of renovating their kitchen. By nature, they (i.e. my father-in-law) love the outdoors and the Tuscan style, so they want to incorporate this into their new space. They also have a more traditional design aesthetic. Tuscan + traditional = lots of wrought iron and wood details. I kind of picture them doing a Tuscan farmhouse theme with TONS of natural light. All pictures are from HouseBeautiful, the top right one being the most modern of the three. Check out the back splash in the first picture. What do all photos have in common? Wood beamed ceilings.

Rug Love.
Rugs. They add so much to a room, but the good looking ones leave your wallet hurting. They are arguably some of the hardest things to skimp on for an expensive look. After all, a rug sets the tone for a room. It is possible though, I promise. To the right are five different rugs in varying price ranges. The first two rugs both have a moroccan feel. The top one is a favorite of mine....would you believe it's actually a tile? Very similar, the rose toned one beneath it is a much cheaper version from overstock. The grey and white trellis rug can also be found at overstock, and is surprisingly affordable. The black and white ikea rug might look familiar because it is seen splashed all over design magazines and designer shows. It's another cheap find with a designer look. You might have guessed it, but the bottom orange and white rug (another favorite) is on the pricey side. Beautiful though, is it not? Check it out here.

Baby Inspiration!
It seems that everyone I know is either pregnant or has just had a baby. I can name ten friends offhand, and as a result have been doing lots of baby shopping for showers. Did I mention my sister is expecting a boy in June? I can't wait to meet him. This post is dedicated to you, friends. I just love this rocking chair by urban outfitters. Nice.Clean.Lines. Check out the above bins, and everything else from Serena and Lily for that matter. They even have a section for parents who want to be surprised by their baby's gender. Of course, it's not cheap.......but inspiration isn't usually cheap, but rather inspires you to find cheap alternatives.

Of course, I couldn't leave out a chandelier! I love this one from ikea, it's just enough without being over-the-top. The wallpaper is from dwellstudio, I just love the idea of wallpaper in a nursery. Chic.

Old Things New
My parents bought this furniture for me when I was 16, and though it's wonderful quality, my taste has definitely changed in the past 10yrs. Since the military sometimes moves us places for a short time (such as our current 6 month relocation), it's not always smart to paint. With plain walls, it's even more important for there to be some contrast......whether it be the color/stain of the furniture or wall art. This is the recent project my husband & I tackled.

I love the burnt stain. Im also thinking about adding some cute anthropologie knobs to update the look. Do you have any before and after pictures?

Quality vs. Quantity, Moving, and Chandeliers
To me, Restless Oasis represents my life right now.....moving, moving, and moving. It's challenging (and yes, sometimes frustrating) with trying to make furniture work in different spaces. At the same time though, it has helped me think outside the box and to be more careful about purchases. I am still learning how to make our home beautiful with staple pieces while at the same time being careful not to buy expensive items that I know won't survive multiple moves. Believe me- coming from a girl who loves quality over quantity, it's a constant battle.
I'm obsessed with chandeliers right now, so here's one that fits the above criteria:

I love the simplicity of it....and it would look great with a coat of chrome or coral paint. I guess I dont have to wait until my husband gets out of the military for my chandelier. I love that this industrial inspired chandelier is an easy DIY project. Here is a tutorial on how Leah Allen created this look in her trendy Brooklyn bar.
