Dream.....When You're Feeling Blue

Dream....that's the thing to do......
I've been humming that song the entire time putting this post together.  Catchy.  It so happens that along with my usual love for the color, I have been especially drawn to this indigo shade lately.  Cool tones in general have a calming effect on me, and indigo is proving to be no exception.

Ok West Elm, Just Stop

Here's the thing guys:  I generally try not to overwhelm you with posts about shops and house items.  This is partly for me (I don't want to be consumed with buying more things or wanting things I can't have), and partly because I want this blog to encourage you guys (and me) to achieve beautiful design creatively (through DIY projects, craigslist, and re-purposing).  BUT, every now and then I come across things that I find so inspiring that I have to share.....and the new textiles in at West Elm are just that.

Layered Rugs, Yes or No?

My friend B and her husband are in the process of buying a house, and we have been talking about ideas for her new home. The subject of rugs and layering of rugs came up, and it got me thinking. What are your guys thoughts on this subject? My personal take is this: I don't mind layering rugs on wall-to-wall carpet as long as it's a very low pile carpet. I do, however, like the layered rug look- especially when the bottom rug is a jute rug. Here are pictures for you readers who are visual like myself. What do you guys think?

August is the new Fall

I know it's August, BUT I have been hearing horror stories about upstate NY......like it snowing in October all the way through May. This winter is going to be an experience to say the least. Throw blankets are always way overpriced(at least the really pretty ones), so I was excited about this find.

Moroccan Wedding Blanket

Also known as handira, these blankets are made by the female relatives of the Moroccan bride as a part of the Berber tradition (following her wedding ceremony), in which she ties the blanket around her head like a sort of cape. These wedding blankets are simply gorgeous, and take a long time to make. Morocco is one of those places I dream of visiting, they have such a beautiful culture. As you may already know I'm a little obsessed with their architecture and textiles, but it's easy to see why.
