To Loaf

Every year around this time I try really hard not to think about fall and enjoy the remainder of my summer….and every year I fail miserably. I just love it all- the crisp weather, the colors, the layers….everything about it appeals to me. Normally I'm all about boots and booties as the temperatures start to drop, but this year I'm finding myself more and more drawn to loafers. Here are some of my favorites in all price ranges (the Vince ones being my favorite and out of my budget….but inspiration none the less):

Fall Inspiration

So I know I just wrote about minimalism Friday…but, I don't think that means not spending money(though that's never a bad idea).  For me, that means thoughtful purchases and fewer items- quality over quantity where possible.   I have been shamelessly looking at my weather app every day, excited for this beautiful season around the corner. Here are a few things that have been catching my eye lately….some transition items and some full on fall weather pieces (all of which I don't need, so I thought I would share them with you:).
1. weekend sweats
2. Heath mug
3. Fall picnic blanket (on sale!)
4. panama hat
5. folkyard scarf
6. tassel necklace
7. booties
8. birch logs
9. pointy flats
10. romper

Back to School

Happy Labor Day!  This week I thought it would be fun to do a back-to-school series starting with this Fall look.  I would definitely describe my style as classic with a few trendy items interspersed here and there when the budget allows.  I haven't done a fashion post in a while.....partly because I'm very aware that I'm no expert, and partly because I don't want the blog to focus on "stuff" and accumulating more of that "stuff".  I want this space to be a source of inspiration and not the start of discontentment.  Because, really, I love fashion and yet have to work with a limited budget.  So today, I just want to start with a classic look that I love.....a blazer with boyfriend jeans and I added in a few accessories.  Even something this simple may take a couple seasons to put together on a tight budget, but I have found that quality over quantity is best.
*The below picture is from a new favorite fashion blog, Polienne.
1. leopard flats
2. blazer
3. messenger bag
4. shades
5. hat
6. boyfriend jeans

White-After-Labor-Day Picks

It has been a really long time since I've done a fashion post.  This is partly due to the fact that though I love fashion, I'm most definitely not a fashionista.  I tend towards classic pieces with a few trendy things interspersed.  With that said, I still get a little excited about Fashion Week in NYC and have been enjoying the ongoing inspiration.  On a side note- during our trip to DC, my grandma gave me a copy of Vogue's September issue.....and it just confirmed what I already knew- that besides being the sweetest and "wittiest" Grandma, she is also the coolest.  Anyways, here are my picks for white after Labor Day....because that rule is out the window in my book.
~
1. Love this look for those awkward temperatures when it's right in between warm and cool.

Here is a similar blazer from Madewell (it might be the same one?):

2.  Fitted white dress from Zara

3.  Cozy knits

4.  Chic all white/cream outfit.....

5.  Every woman needs a white silk blouse

Mixing it up

Mixing prints can be intimidating, but it doesn't have to be! Though there is a certain level of subjectivity that comes with it, here are a few examples of pattern mixing done right (in my opinion). What do you think?
~
I featured the below picture last year in this post, but this time pay special attention to all the patterns and colors going on here.
In my opinion, Jules always mixes patterns flawlessly.
I know most of you have seen this picture of Joy Cho's living room, but I had to include it because I just love the combination of the rug and wallpaper.

Neon

I'll be the first to admit that I'm a little timid when it comes to wearing bright colors. While there's a part of me that loves the current neon trend, the majority of me shies away from it (mostly because of my blonde hair...makes me feel borderline barbie). What better way to add some bright colors than through accessories? I was planning on giving away these old bangles to Goodwill until seeing this easy DIY on pinterest. It was cheap (I used embroidery thread I already had) and surprisingly easy. Few things give me as much satisfaction as making old things new.
