Green on a Tuesday

Typically, I'm drawn to shades of blue when it comes to adding color to my otherwise black and white palette. Occasionally, I'll add in a dusty pink. But lately I have been noticing myself pinning images and art filled with green. I'm going to blame it on this gorgeous wallpaper Emily Henderson is using for her baby's nursery- because ever since I first spied it, I've been thinking of ways to incorporate the color into my home.

This combination of the pink lounge chairs and the green water kills me:

Masculine California Cool

We all know that I tend to gravitate towards bright airy rooms mostly comprised of neutrals, but when I do add in color, I usually do so through art or textiles. For me, it's the easiest way to add color to a space without taking away from that cool laid back vibe that I've come to love some much. So when Chairish asked me to design a room around one of their vintage rugs, I said yes... because not only is that my favorite way to design a room, but I'm also a sucker for vintage rugs.

Eclectic Minimal

When I first started blogging about design, the term eclectic did not exactly have a positive ring to it.  It brought to mind a home filled to the brim with stuff….and not the good kind of stuff mind you- the weird collector kind of stuff (a gnome collection? why?). But now, the word eclectic is one that I would use to describe some of my favorite design inspirations (many times with the word minimal attached to it). It simply connotes a blend of styles. While most of us wouldn't have trouble furnishing our home from a single store, it takes more skill to master the art of mixing styles, finishes, and patterns. Here are some homes the do just that:

Fall Inspiration

Life has been busy as of late….and the best kind of busy- exploring (both local and non local) with my family and playing hostess for a dear friend. While I love my little creative space on the internet, I love the people in my life more….which brings me to today's post. The idea of transforming our home into a cozy Autumnal space for memories to be made with my family  is such an appealing one, yet decorating for seasons is not my strong suit. Aside from buying pumpkins, I find myself wanting to invest in things that we can use year round rather than just a few months out of the year, and then of course I always seem to hit a roadblock in finding pretty Fall decor that is also my aesthetic. Not this year though…I've decided to start small and am finding loads of inspiration everywhere.

Artist Crush- Pepa Poch

When I happened upon Pepa's work in Lonny's September issue, it was love at first site. These dreamy blues are calling my name and giving me the travel bug. After doing a little research, it's was unsurprising to find her home just as striking (and off the Spanish coast)….
Ps. And thank you to Style Me Pretty Living for featuring my DIY dining room lighting today!

Having A Green Moment

Every now and then I find myself tucking away images of rooms that share a similar theme. In this case, green is the name of the game. Perhaps it's the promise of cooler temperatures that's drawing me to these cool green tones or maybe it's simply a micro trend right now, but either way I'm finding it new and refreshing.
Also, congratulations to Kristen on winning the giveaway!  Please let StenCilit know which stencil you pick out:).

Scandinavian Boy Nursery Inspiration

So, I guess I should share the reason behind my inconsistent posting this Summer.  While I definitely have been enjoying the beautiful weather and spending time with my family, that's not the sole reason for my absence here.  I'm pregnant with a baby girl!  We are beyond excited.  Though I have no real complaints as far as the pregnancy is concerned, I will note that nothing seems to sap my creativity more than exhaustion and nausea (only the first few months this time, thank goodness).
The funny thing is, though I actually thought it was a girl all along (and secretly hoped for one), I found myself being drawn to baby boy names and nursery things.  Ever since our Norway trip (seen here and here), I loved the idea of a Scandinavian nursery as a nod towards Connor's heritage.  So since we are not having a boy, I thought I would share my inspiration board with you:

When designing a room, I usually start with a pattern that I love…….whether it be fabric, an art piece, a rug, curtains, or wallpaper.  I find it's easier to build a cohesive room that way, and mixing patterns isn't as tricky when you start with the ones that you love.  In this case, I fell in love with the Robert Allen folkland fabric, and probably would have used it to make a crib sheet.  Not seen in this mood board, is the crib and other furniture we already have…..I'm still unsure how I want to rearrange our furniture in the house between the two girls.  More on that later!

Abstract Wall Mural

I know this is a bold statement…..so if you have trouble getting on board with this idea at first, I get it.  But- trade in the bold colors for a matte black and make the mural on a (much) smaller scale, and I think it could look really cool without having too much of a shock factor.  For the past few months I've actually been considering doing something like this in our entryway.  The only thing stopping me is that it feels like we just put away our paint brushes and said "we're done!" after painting the entire house.  It could also go totally wrong and then I would have a wall to re-paint………thoughts?

Decorating with Posters

My current art kick has recently taken me on a poster search.  There's something about a poster that adds a different element than other art prints…..it makes a space more casual and it's less expected.  In the wrong room it can look cheap but in a nicely styled room it looks chic. Here are some of my current poster inspirations:

1. This simple poster adds color and a major touch of unexpected.  While I could imagine it being in a dingy hotel room, it totally looks great here and works in this space.
2. I love the natural element of this one, it's pretty classic yet begs for attention.
3. A Vogue poster adds such a cool vibe.  It's bold and interesting.
4. The iconic Andy Warhol poster….enough said.
5. I always love a good Scandinavian monochromatic poster.

The Copper Pendant

Have you guys ever noticed a trend in your pins on pinterest?  Well according to my pins, this copper pendant has been catching my eye as of late.  Maybe it's because lighting has been on my mind, but when I caught another glimpse of it over on Sarah Yates living room reveal, I decided it was worthy of a post.  It really is beautiful, is it not?

One shelf, 22 Ways

Have you guys seen this?  Twenty-two of Lotta Agaton's ( a set designer for Scandinavian furniture store String) students each styled the String shelf in a unique way. I stumbled upon it while catching up on a favorite blog (Emmas Design Blog), and had to repost.  I loved how this project shows not only the importance of styling, but the endless creative possibilities there are in styling something so simple as a shelf.  These were my favorites, check out the rest here .

First Impressions

Our entryway needs help.  Admittedly, it's not always the area highest on my priority list, but it is the first impression guests have when they enter our home.  Not to mention, there is an added coziness a nice entryway brings to a home.  I've been slowly collecting images/ideas for our entryway over the past few months, and I'm finally starting to make some headway.  I thought I would share some of my inspiration with you:

(I apologize in advance for the resolution in this next one, but I couldn't bear to leave it out)

Needing more Green

As mentioned in my last post, the succulents I bought six months ago are still alive and well (nothing short of a miracle).  I'm feeling that I may have graduated to a higher maintenance type of plant…..and ever since I saw the below planter over on Sarah Yates blog, I have been loving the idea of a nice planter for our entryway.

Maybe not for our entryway, but here are some other ones that have caught my eye…..

Natural Light

When we moved to Indy and I realized the likelihood of us buying a newer house versus an older home, I made a list of things that were important to me (aside from charm) to help in our search.  At the top of that list was natural light.  Because to me, there is something so peaceful about light coming through my windows as I drink my morning coffee.  It brightens my mood, and I feel less cooped up on days that I don't get out of the house.
