DIY Modern Wall Hooks

We have been sick over here this week….nothing life altering, but the "getting only the basics done" kind of sickness.  Thankfully, I've had this post on hand for a time such as this. Remember these simple hooks from Reese's room? They were the easiest DIY, and if I hadn't had to buy the parts in packages, they would have cost less than a dollar per hook.

Here you can see them in her room….I'm still deciding if I want to add a third one.
What you need:
-1 wooden spool (found at local craft store)
-1 flat wooden circular piece (found at local craft store)
-1 hanger bolt (or double sided screw as I call it)
                                                                               -a drill & Forstner drill bit(not pictured)
                                                                                -wood glue (not pictured)

*Make a slight "imprint" with the drill bit into the center of the flat wooden circular piece. Add a thin coat of wood glue to the imprint before pressing the spool firmly into place. Let it dry completely. I actually just screwed the hanger bolt into the spool with my hand. You can leave the hook as is, or paint it however you like. Easy.

Masculine California Cool

We all know that I tend to gravitate towards bright airy rooms mostly comprised of neutrals, but when I do add in color, I usually do so through art or textiles. For me, it's the easiest way to add color to a space without taking away from that cool laid back vibe that I've come to love some much. So when Chairish asked me to design a room around one of their vintage rugs, I said yes... because not only is that my favorite way to design a room, but I'm also a sucker for vintage rugs.

Some Things Take Time

Some things take time…like finishing this little reading nook in our bedroom…and learning to be a good wife/mother/friend….and being pregnant for 9 months….and getting back in shape…and that list could go on and on. These days I'm learning to be patient with myself and the less than perfect, to sit back and enjoy the process, and to say to myself "some things take time".
~

They say the bedroom is the last place in the house to receive attention, and that's certainly been the case for us. When we bought our house a year and a half ago, I didn't have any high hopes for our bedroom. It was purple for starters….. huge (tricky if you don't have huge furniture), and there was some weird architectural aspects that I didn't love. We've come a long ways since that first impression though, and for the first time since we've been married- I really love our bedroom. Not only is it the hangout space for the family on Saturday mornings, but this little reading nook has quickly become one of my favorite places to unwind.
