 I promise the blog isn't turning into a children's decor blog……but with our new girl on the way, kid things have been very much on my mind lately. Reese is currently sleeping in her crib that we converted into a toddler bed a few months ago, but we will need it to be a crib again for our new baby.  Do we buy a toddler bed?  Do we just move Reese to the guest bed and not buy a bed at all?  Do we buy a daybed that we could eventually use elsewhere in the house?  These are all thoughts that have been running through my head. First conclusion we came to is that we want to keep the guest bed a guest bed……I love hosting out of town friends and family and don't want to have to kick Reese out of her bed/routine when we do.  We also decided that we did not want to buy a toddler bed, and that we wanted something that could last for years. In the end, a twin bed seems like the best option for us…but easier said than done!

1.  Like many of you, budget aside, the Oeuf bed is my first choice.  I love it's clean lines, and it's timeless enough for her to grow up with it.  The main issue is that's a lot of money to plunk down for a two year old's bed…..will we like it in 10 years?  Will she ruin it?  Maybe….  

2. After doing a ton of research, it seemed that Ikea was our only cheaper option for buying a brand new bed.  I saw nice beds for the $500-$600 price range, but at that cost I'd prefer to buy the one I really love (Oeuf) or buy one for cheap.  This Ikea bed was my favorite, I like the clean lines and the fact that it extends.

3. The third option is Craigslist, which is also luck of the draw.  I have seen a ton of awesome brass beds like the one below. The only problem is that they are a little too similar to our metal guest bed.  Wooden twin beds on craigslist are tricky, most of them are too traditional for my taste.  

How about you guys?  Any other options?  I'm not going to lie, the thought of making our own bed has crossed my mind…..

I have been on the lookout for affordable occasional tables, and while I  don't want to spend much, I also don't want to sacrifice style.  Target is always a good option, but I was surprised by the variety I found on their site.  Most of these tables are under $80, but some are even under $50!  Of course I had to share……

and mine with the reindeer hide we bought on our trip to Norway this summer.  I still need to work on styling this corner of our living room.....not to mention I would love to exchange the beige carpet for some wood floors.  A work in progress though, right?

Remember this post?  Well, I'm finally getting around to sharing our ladder shelf with you.  I realize it's not so original, but I really love it.....especially considering it cost us a grand total of $30.   Though I'm still not done with styling it (or the entire office for that matter), I am happy with the direction it's taking.  The wooden crates have moved from R's old room to our office, due to her new "climb everything" stage.  Good news is the crates actually store way more books than they appear, and I finally have a place for my oddly shaped crafting items.  This will have to serve as a sneak peak until I can share the rest of the office with you.

 I found the old ladder on craigslist for $20.  While still a simple DIY, we had to make the shelves level by adding another piece of wood under one side of each shelf.  We also connected the two pieces of wood using a metal bracket. I won't insult your intelligence by going into further detail:).

I would say that I'm a chair person, not a couch person.  If the hard part in chair shopping for me is choosing among the plethora of chairs that I love, the hard part for buying a couch would be finding one that I'm super excited about.  Lately though, I've been seeing numerous couches that I really like....and since buying a couch is very low on our priority list, I thought I would share them with you.

1.  This is the typical sort of couch that I'm drawn to....clean lines with a cozy touch.      

2.  Lately though, I've been really loving a nice leather Chesterfield sofa.  You can't go wrong with this classic.

5.  Another perfect combination of design meets cozy.  It also looks like a really big safari chair, which I love.

Hey there!  Hope you guys had a wonderful weekend!  We originally had plans to go explore a local swimming quarry, but since we just got back from a vacation of exploring we decided it was time to roll up our sleeves and get some things done around the house.  Most of our projects were anything but exciting- painting a hallway, hanging more things up (it's taking us long enough), and organizing house things.  But, I am excited that we finally finished making a bookcase for the office.  This has been a long time coming- since I decided to sell all of our old bookcases, our books have been in piles on the floor of our guest room.  Part of the problem was not having any clear direction.....let me share the process with you (and hopefully it won't bore you too much).

It started out with me liking a bookcase with doors, such as this one below.  I liked the idea of "hiding" our ugly books.  Red really wanted an open bookcase though, so this got scratched.

Then there was this industrial bookcase.  Though I liked it, I was feeling less excited as I have seen tons of pictures of this DIY all over the web.  I wanted something a little more original, and Red really hated the idea of building a bookcase into our walls (for re-sell purposes).

Then I saw this one over at World Market.  It's pretty classic and we both liked it, but neither of us wanted to put our money towards a bookcase when we need things like chairs for our living and dining rooms.  Besides, I really wanted to come up with a DIY for our bookcase.

So, I'm going to leave you hanging for a little bit with what bookcase we actually decided on and finished as of last night at 11pm.  Cheers!   

I have this thing for chairs.....all styles, all shapes.  Most recently, the Wassily chair in the picture below has been haunting me.  With all the craze for the black leather Eames lounge chair, I'm kind of loving the tan leather accent chair instead.

Well, we made it to Indiana and are currently living out of a hotel until we officially move into our new home this weekend.  Aside from my short bout of sickness, we have been busy getting to know the area and scouring the local craigslist.  I'm always amazed at the gems I find on craigslist at such a low cost.  I'll share our finds later, but until then here are some images I've found inspiring.  I love the end result when they are styled beautifully and mixed with modern pieces.
